Shelter Veterinarian

Every vet has a reason for choosing their career, and mine started with adopting two cats from my local animal shelter in 2008. That experience taught me what an animal shelter was, introduced me to animals and people in need, and most importantly, showed me that we have the power to be a part of the solution.

Throughout many years of exploring various careers in animal welfare, participating in humane education programs, fostering, and volunteering with my local animal shelter, I gained a deeper understanding of how and why animal shelters work. The caring, hard-working shelter staff making a difference each day showed me that, despite daily challenges, shelters could be a place of hope. With a desire to help like those who inspired me, I decided to pursue a career in veterinary medicine with the specific intention of becoming a shelter veterinarian.

Soon after graduating from Purdue's College of Veterinary Medicine in 2024, I had the privilege of participating in the 2024-2025 Maddie’s Shelter Medicine Fellowship Program. Now with two years of shelter medicine practice, an ever-growing passion for shelter medicine, and a lifelong connection to Northeast Indiana, I am excited to provide evidence-based shelter medicine to this region.

This field is not easy, but the kindness and hard work of shelter staff inspire me every day. I would be privileged to play a part in the difference you make to help animals and your community.
